Description:

Advertisement for Bio-imaging Positions

The Franklin College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Georgiainvites applications for two (2) tenure track positions at the Assistant orAssociate Professor level to begin August, 2008 in our fast-growingbio-imaging research core. Faculty are being recruited across disciplinesintegral to the development of a University-wide initiative in bio-imagingresearch dedicated to addressing today's biomedical health problems.Examples of appropriate disciplines include, but are not limited to,Anthropology, the Biological Sciences, Computer Science, Linguistics,Mathematics, Neuroscience, Physics, Psychology, and Statistics. Faculty areexpected to use as their primary research tools those technologiescurrently in the state-of-the-art Bio-Imaging Research Center (BIRC), oneof the few research-dedicated centers of its kind in the nation, includinghigh-field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI, fMRI, DTI, MRA, MRS, and MNScapabilities), magnetoencephalography (MEG), and/or dense-arrayelectroencephalography (EEG). These technologies allow for exquisitestructural and functional imaging of the brain and central nervous system,as well as muscle, and bone. We seek outstanding scholars engaged in highimpact research, regardless of specific research focus. Successfulcandidates are expected to develop nationally recognized research lines andsuccessfully compete for extramural funding. Successful candidates will behoused in and be considered for promotion and tenure within their primarydepartment, with appointments to the BIRC.

The Bio-Imaging Research Center, or BIRC(http://www.uga.edu/psychology/BIRC/facilities/index.htm), is housed in thenewly constructed Paul D. Coverdell Biomedical Health Sciences Building. Itis a 9,000 square foot research suite dedicated to bio-imaging research forthe good of the State of Georgia and the nation. The technology in the BIRCrepresents an indispensable set of integrated tools for biomedical researchand an exceptional opportunity for academic researchers. Together theyenable exquisite high-spatial resolution tissue imaging in humans andanimals via magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and integrate with hightemporal resolution data of brain activity (MEG, EEG). Potential forcollaborations are available across the University and may include theBiomedical Health Sciences Institute and its new Neuroscience Degreeprogram; the Regenerative Bioscience Center; Nanotechnology;Bioengineering; Developmental Biology; the Institute of BehavioralResearch; the Institute of Gerontology; and probable collaborations withthe Medical College of Georgia, Emory, the Shepherd Center and Georgia Tech.

Candidates should send via email a letter of application describingresearch and teaching interests, a curriculum vita (as an attachment) andarrange to have four letters of reference sent electronically to Dr. D.R.McCreary, mccrearyuga.edu, and by snail mail to Chair, Bio-Imaging SearchCommittee, c/o L. Stephen Miller, PhD, Bio-Imaging Research Center at theaddress given below. Snail mail may include reprints/preprints and otherdocuments. The Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, its many units, andthe University of Georgia are committed to increasing the diversity of itsfaculty and students, and sustaining a work and learning environment thatis inclusive. The University is an EEO/AA institution. Applicationsreceived by January 25, 2008, are assured full consideration.
