    The Linguistics Department at The University of Kansas invites applications for a tenure-track position in acoustic phonetics at the rank of Assistant Professor starting August 16, 1998, subject to budgetary approval. A Ph.D. in Linguistics or related area is required. The ideal candidate should have a strong record of funded research in acoustic analysis. The appointee will participate in the development of an undergraduate course sequence in acoustic phonetics. It is essential that the successful candidate also be able to teach introductory linguistics as well as courses in another area of linguistics (e.g., phonology, field methods, or Native American languages).     ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, Department of Linguistics, University of Washington. A tenure-track appointment is intended in the area of experimental linguistics with primary research specialization in phonetic theory. Duties will include teaching of undergraduate and research courses in phonetics; supervision of graduate students; administration (with phonology faculty) of the departmental phonetics lab; and forging ties with local industry involved in speech synthesis and recognition research.

    Applicants should have the Ph. D. degree by the time the position begins.
