    The Rutgers Center for Cognitive Science (RuCCS) has an opening for a Visiting Faculty position, in the area of adult psycholinguistics. Candidates with an established research program in human sentence processing are encouraged to apply. The candidate must have a strong experimental background in adult psycholinguistics. Multidisciplinary training in linguistics and/or computational modeling is desirable.

    The position is primarily a research appointment, although the candidate will be expected to offer a faculty/graduate seminar in their area of expertise. Appointment will probably be as Assistant or Associate Research Professor, but a higher level appointment is not excluded. Salary will be commensurate with experience. The appointment will be for one academic year. It is possible that a permanent position will be authorized in this area in the near future.

    RuCCS is a multidisciplinary research institute on the New Brunswick, NJ, campus of Rutgers University, with faculty from the Computer Science, Linguistics, Philosophy, and Psychology Departments.     Position in Translation Studies / Linguistics

    The Translation Studies Department at the Institute for English and American Studies, Humboldt-University Berlin, Germany invites applications for a 2 year part-time position in a DFG (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft) project on cleft sentences, starting January 1998.

    The title of the project is "Das Verhdltnis von Fokus und struktureller Explizitheit in Uebersetzungen mit Spaltsaetzen" (the relationship between focus and structural explicitness in the translation of cleft sentences) and will be led by Prof. Dr. M. Doherty.

    Requirements: MA in Linguistics or "Diplomuebersetzer" or equivalent; fluency in English and German. Knowledge in Syntax and/or Semantics especially in Information Structure (Focus, Topic...) is preferred.

    Conditions and salary are set by the DFG to = BAT IIa - O for 2 years.

    The succesful candidate may start in January 1998 or as soon as possible.
