Subject: TESOL/Distance Ed Job
The University of Utah and the Utah Education Consortium seek a Project
Director to help develop and oversee a large-scale TESOL/Bilingual
Education program for public school teachers, the Distance Education ESL
Endorsement Program (DEEEP). Preferably, the successful candidate will
have administrative experience in distance education, public school
administration, university and/or public school teaching, and a background
in TESOL. An M.A. in a closely related field is essential; a Ph.D. is
highly desireable. The Project Director must be able to work well with
several constituencies: The University of Utah's Graduate School of
Education and Linguistics Program, school district administrators,
instructional technology staff, and local school teachers.
Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
1) providing leadership among the constituencies and with the
outside public,
2) managing and administering the program, including maintaining
accurate program records,
3) managing the multi-million dollar budget, including accounting
and reporting procedures,
4) commitment to continuing professional development in
ESL/Bilingual Education and distance education,
5) overall coordination of all constituencies.
The Project Director must be willing to commit to a three-year non-tenure
track (12-month) contract, contingent upon a succesful performance
evaluation at the end of the first full year (30 June 1999). The contract
may be renewable on a longer term basis until 30 June 2002. Salary and
benefits competitive.
Please send a cover letter indicating qualifications for the position along
with a curriculum vita and names of three referees who have been asked to
send letters of recommendation directly to the committee. Chair Search
