    COMPUTATIONAL LINGUIST

    Description:

    Computational linguist with experience in software development. Self motivator who will be responsible for linguistic research and development to support Tegic's text-input system in a variety of languages.

    Required:

    Degree in computational linguistics with emphasis on lexicography and morphological analyzers. Strong programming skills are a necessity.

    Desired:

    Familiarity with C/C++. Experience with software development. Preferably someone who has delivered a commercial product. Exposure to or familiarity with a large number of languages (preferably Eastern European/Asian). Active participation in the computational linguistic community. 5+ years of experience in the field.

    Helpful:

    Familiarity with Perl, Windows NT operating system, compression algorithms. - --------

    HARVARD UNIVERSITY Professor of Linguistics

    The Department of Linguistics at Harvard has been authorized to make an appointment at the senior level (tenured full professorship), effective July 1, 1999. Candidates are expected to provide a distinguished record of publication and teaching in synchronic linguistics, preferably with a specialization in generative syntax, or syntax and a related subfield. They should have a strong commitment to current theoretical concerns and be actively engaged in the professional life of the field. Demonstrated effective administrative experience is desirable.

    The Chinese program in the Dept. of Linguistics and Oriental Languages at San Diego State University has a tenure-track opening for Chinese language. The job announcement follows:

    Zheng-sheng Zhang San Diego State University

    The Department of Linguistics and Oriental Languages at San Diego State University announces a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Chinese language, starting in fall 1999. Candidates must have a Ph.D. or ABD in one of the following fields: Chinese language pedagogy, foreign language education, linguistics or other related areas. Native or near-native fluency in Mandarin and good knowledge of Chinese language structure necessary. Ability to teach communicatively at all levels, and work with students from diverse cultural backgrounds essential. Knowledge of non-Mandarin dialects and special interests in Business Chinese, advanced reading and literary Chinese desirable. Demonstrated interests in inter-disciplinary teaching, research and program development also desirable.
