    Nuance is currently seeking a Speech Data Collection Manager to be a part of the global expansion of Nuance.

    In this position, you will be the central person responsible for collecting speech data in foreign countries from start to finish. This position is key in creating a speech recognition system for a new language.

    Responsibilities:

    Tasks include negotiating contracts with foreign firms, hiring language consultants, compiling reading scripts, setting up telephony system for receiving incoming calls, and monitoring progress.

    Required Skills:

    Proficient in UNIX, some programming ability, management and negotiation skills, knowledge of several languages

    Education requirements:

    BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or Linguistics

    And 2 years industry experience

    The Department of English at Michigan State University seeks to fill a tenure-track position at the level of beginning Assistant Professor to support the graduate program in TESOL. Duties include undergraduate and graduate courses in TESOL and SLA; in addition, all faculty are encouraged to participate in the College of Arts and Letters general education program housed in the Center for Integrative Studies. The individual must have research expertise in one or preferably more of the following: a) CALL, b) assessment, c) interlanguage pragmatics, d) second language reading, e) classroom-oriented research. Ph.D. in SLA, TESOL, English or closely-related area required by August 15, 1999.
