    *POSITION NOTICE*: ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF HISPANIC LINGUSITICS (SOCIOLINGUISTIICS)

    Assistant Professor of Spanish, pending final budgetary approval. Tenure-track position, to begin Autumn 1999. Specialization in sociolinguistics and demonstrated research focus in language variation and change. Interest in Spanish in the U. S. or other ancillary field desirable. Solid background in one or more additional areas of theoretical linguistics required. Ph.D. in hand. Evidence of active research program. Strong commitment to graduate and undergraduate teaching. Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English. Teaching in undergraduate Spanish language and linguistics courses, and in Hispanic linguistics graduate program. Candidates with experience in rank are encouraged to apply. Salary negotiable. Preliminary interviews at the December meeting of the MLA in San Francisco.
