The Department of Linguistics at Oakland University invites applications
for a tenure track assistant professor, appointment effective August 15,
1999, with a specialization in ESL theory and methodology and an
additional specialization in some other area of linguistic theory
(preferably phonology). The appointee will be expected to teach courses
and maintain an active research program in her or his areas of
specialization, as well as teach additional courses in the core areas of
linguistics. The position requires a Ph.D. in Linguistics, a strong
theoretical background, and a commitment to research and teaching.

Preliminary interviews with members of the search committee will be held at
the LSA meeting in Los Angeles, January 7-10, 1999; candidates who plan on
attending the meeting should submit their applications by December 1 so that
interviews can be arranged; those unable to attend are still encouraged

full consideration.

Visiting Assistant Professor or Instructor appointment, renewable to
three years, for a linguist in the English Department, beginning Fall,
1999. Responsibilities include teaching Introduction to Linguistics,
Varieties of American English, TEFL, and writing courses, in a liberal
arts curriculum; and work with the writing program and center. Load
equivalent is 6 or 7 courses/year. Degree and teaching in linguistics
required; competency and interest in History of the English Language and
Modern Grammar desirable. PhD preferred. Mid-$30s, depending on
credentials.
