    Associate Professor in Linguistics. Tenure-track appointment. Ph.D. required. Substantial publication record and demonstrated experience in the research, resources, and investigative methods of Applied Linguistics required. American Dialectology with some knowledge of acoustic phonology required. Ability to teach linguistics of literature and research experience in this area highly desirable. Applicants should be familiar with the workings of an English Department and be able to teach undergraduate and graduate linguistics courses. The University of Memphis is currently establishing a Ph.D. program in English: Language and Writing Studies with a concentration in Applied Linguistics. Applicants should submit samples of published work, vita, transcript, and three letters of recommendation no later than November 30 to be considered for MLA or LSA interviews.     The Department of Linguistics and Philosophy at MIT invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions starting September 1999,one in PHONOLOGY and the other in SYNTAX (or SYNTAX/SEMANTICS). Research specializations include but are not limited to acquisition and/or phonetics(for the phonology position) and fieldwork on poorly documented languages,typology and universals (for both positions). Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and the supervision of student research.
