Applications are invited for a tenure-track position in Linguistics,
effective September 1, 1999. The applicant should specialize in
SOCIOLINGUISTICS. Ability to teach an advanced undergraduate course in
historical linguistics is highly desirable. Secondary research
interests in (a) experimental phonetics and/or (b) a non-Indo-European
language would be an asset. Teaching and research should be informed
by current generative grammatical theory with a focus on formal
constraints on code switching, language variation, and/or language
change.
General qualifications: PhD in linguistics, and demonstrated
excellence in teaching and research in the area(s) of
specialization. Duties will include undergraduate and graduate
teaching, graduate research guidance, and departmental
responsibilities. Salary: $43,000. Deadline for applications: 15
DECEMBER 1998.
In accordance with Canadian immigration requirements, this
advertisement is directed to Canadian citizens and permanent residents
in the first instance.
Please send cover letter, c.v., samples of research, and any
