    Da Yeh University's nascent English Department has faculty openings effective Spring and Fall 1999 for Ph.D. holders in Linguistics, EFL, ESL, TESOL, Education, Literature, and/or related areas of expertise for permanent appointments at the ranks of Assistant and Associate Professor. Responsibilities will include teaching (ca. 10 hours per week), helping the Department establish a course curriculum and research programs in keeping with its teaching goals, and guiding graduate and undergraduate research projects.

    Qualified applicants should send the following materials (in English) as soon as possible:

    (1) Curriculum vitae (2) Three letters of reference or a placement dossier (3) Official transcripts for all coursework, both undergraduate and graduate (4) Copies of all diplomas, both undergraduate and graduate (5) An autobiographical sketch (6) A sample of pertinent research (with abstract) (7) For persons in the final stages of work toward the Ph.D. degree: a letter stating the expected date of completion of the degree, plus supporting documents from an official at the respective institution

    In addition to the application materials, an interview is required. All applicants selected as finalists are encouraged to come to DYU for an in-person interview. Candidates who are unable to travel to Taiwan may send a video tape.     DYU is a private institution which was founded as an Institute of Technology in 1990 and elevated to University status by the ROC Ministry of Education in 1997. The current enrollment is around 8000. The campus is located on the side of a mountain in a rural area of Central Taiwan, about 30 kilometers (18 miles) south of Taichung, the 3rd-largest city in Taiwan. A limited number of apartments for faculty are available on campus at competitive rental rates; other housing is available nearby. At the current exchange rate, a typical salary for an Associate Professor is about US$30,000 per year.
