    CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY SAN MARCOS<br>

    LIBERAL STUDIES PROGRAM

    The Liberal Studies Program at California State University, San Marcos is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Linguistics beginning Fall 1999.&nbsp; Applications are encouraged from linguists who study language from an interdisciplinary perspective.&nbsp; Priority given to scholars whose work focuses on language acquisition or socio-linguistics among ethnic populations in the United States, with preference for those focusing on Spanish and/or Indigenous languages.&nbsp; We are particularly interested in an interdisciplinary scholar whose work crosses the boundaries of linguistic science and other disciplines.&nbsp; Scholar must participate in General Education and the preparation of future bilingual K-12 teachers to meet the demands of the area's changing population.&nbsp; The Liberal Studies Program is comprised of eight full-time faculty members from the humanities and the social and behavioral sciences who are committed to interdisciplinary teaching and research.

    The Department of Linguistics, University of Chicago, seeks to fill a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level. We are seeking a scholar of exceptional promise with high competence in at least two areas of specialization, preferably including phonetics, phonology, or computational linguistics. The successful candidate should have demonstrated a research agenda that is likely to establish new trends of scholarship in the coming century. He or she will be expected to teach at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

    Interested parties should submit a CV, a detailed statement of their research agenda over the next few years, and a sample of their scholarly writing. They should also ask at least three references to send us letters of recommendation. The CV should include contact information through December 31, 1998.
