JOB IN COMPUTATIONAL LINGUISTICS

The section "Language and law", lead by Prof. Oskar Putzer, focuses on
research and education activities at the intersection between
linguistics and legal practice. The main themes covered are legal and
administrative terminology, languages for special purposes, language
policy and computer-assisted language learning. Research in these
fields is accompanied and supported by a group working in
computational linguistics. The successful candidate will join this
group and mainly work in a project about computer-assisted terminology
extraction.
TASKS:
* building of a parallel Italian/German text corpus
* development of methods for semi-automatic terminology acquisition
REQUIRED:
* MS/PhD in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, Mathematics
or related field;
* good programming skills;
* good problem solving and communication skills (both written and verbal);
* interest in basic and applied research
DESIRED:
* knowledge of Italian and/or German
The positions will be filled as soon as possible. There is the
possibility to get a PhD.

PROFESSOR OF ENGLISH LINGUISTICS
The Department of English, University of Vienna, has a vacancy for the
position of Professor in English Linguistics. The post is tenable from
October 1st, 2000. Applicants should be able to teach across a broad
area of English Linguistics and have substantial relevant experience in
the field. In their research they should have demonstrated excellence in
the area of descriptive linguistics of present-day English, with
particular concern for its relevance and applicability to language
teacher education (Applied Linguistics for EFL). Applicants should also
be well-versed in and receptive to different theoretical approaches in
linguistics. Administrative experience is desirable.
Applicants will need to have relevant academic qualifications up to the
level of an Austrian habilitation or the equivalent from elsewhere,
together with proven expertise in teaching and academic leadership and a
recognised position in the international scholarly community.
