    Assistant Professor or Visiting Assistant Professor in Spanish Sociolinguistics

    The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures seeks to hire an Assistant Professor (tenure track) or Visiting Assistant Professor (non-tenure track) in Spanish sociolinguistics, to begin Fall 1999.

    Any of the following subspecializations would be desirable: language contact, bilingualism, dialectology, Spanish in the U.S. Responsibilities include teaching courses in Spanish sociolinguistics at both the undergraduate and graduate levels (three courses per year in Spanish; one per year in the Linguistics Program), supervising graduate students, and coordination of the second-year language program in Spanish (20 sections per year). Ph.D. in hand by time of appointment (8/6/99) preferred, native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English, demonstrated excellence in teaching, strong record/potential for research, active commitment to program development and service. Experience in coordination a plus. Applicants who are advanced in their careers may be eligible to be hired as a senior Assistant Professor, i.e., with some years' credit toward tenure. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

    ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF SPANISH

    Assistant Professor of Spanish, tenure track, Ph.D. by August 1999 or hired as instructor until Ph.D. completed (December 1999 deadline). Four courses/semester, primarily in elementary and intermediate Spanish plus some upper level courses: linguistics for bilingual ed. majors, and advanced grammar and composition. Possibility of teaching culture and/or literature courses. Committee responsibilities also. Teaching experience and commitment to scholarship required. Salary: $33,000-35,000/9 mos.
