    Linguistic Anthropologist One-Year Temporary 1998-1999

    University of Missouri-Columbia seeks a linguistic anthropologist for a temporary 1-year replacement during 1998-1999. Course load is 5 courses/year (4 preparations). The successful candidate will be expected to teach: (1) the freshman-level Human Language, (2) introductory Linguistic Anthropology, (3) upper-level Language and Culture, plus either (4) an upper-level linguistics course or (5) Introductory Anthropology. Salary is $27,000-31,000 depending upon qualifications. Candidates should hold the Ph.D. Deadline for application is March 20, 1998.     Postdoctoral Research Officer

    Salary Grade 1A: 15,159-22,785 pounds (approx $24,000-36,500)

    Applications are invited for the position of Research Officer to work on two research projects, one an acoustic investigation of prosodic development in Welsh, the other a series of speech perception experiments designed to explore the role of accentual pattern in early lexical representation. The applicant should have expertise in the acoustic analysis of speech and/or experience in conducting experimental speech perception work with infants, have a solid background in developmental psycholinguistics, acoustic phonetics or psychoacoustics, and hold or expect to hold a Ph.D degree before taking up the position.

    The post is available for 12 months, commencing summer, 1998, with the possibility of extension through the development of additional successful research proposals. The post is supported by two ESRC grants to Professor Marilyn M. Vihman.
