    ESL/EFL Teachers at Korea University in Seoul:

    Korea University is looking for ESL/EFL teachers to join the staff at its Institute of Foreign Language Studies, We are recruiting enthusiastic, well-trained teachers who wish to refine their teaching experience in this interesting part ofthe world at an interesting time in its history. Korea University, founded in 1905, is one of the top three universities in Korea. Its location in the northeastern section of Seoul provides easy access to the many highlights of Korea's capital city.

    PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The IFLS offers a variety of English classes to the students of Korea Universities, including the required Freshman Practical English course as well as higher level elective courses focusing on developing speaking, listening, and writing abilities. Teaching opportunities are also provided in a newly formed program designed to offer courses to the general public.

    DATES: Contract period is for one year, from August 1998 to July 1999. Contract may be renewed upon consent of both parties.

    JOB DUTIES: 16 contact hours per week, M-F with additional office hours to 9 hours per week. Up to four additional overtime hours may be assigned at the discretion of the director of the institute and are compensated. Teaching in Winterim and one-month summer courses may be assigned as well and is paid. Attendance at meetings and commitment to curriculum development expected.

    QUALIFICATIONS: Native speaker of English ; MA/TEFL/TESL. Other related degrees considered, university-level teaching experience a strong plus.

    SALARY AND BENEFITS: 1,800,000 to 2,200,000 Won per month depending on degree and experience. Four times a year bonuses equal to one month's salary are paid. In the first contract year, one bonus is replaced by remittance ofairfare. Overtime is paid for additional teaching hours beyond 16 contract hoursas well as for classes in the affiliated general program. Benefits include subsidized Korean National Health Insurance ; office with Internet access ; guaranteed 8 weeks paid vacation per year ; and on-campus housing provided at below-market rents. One month's severance pay for each year of service. In spite of Korea'scurrent economic problems, it is possible to live relatively well in Seoul, travel in Asia and still save some money.
